WELL-MAINTAINED FURNITURE RETAINS ITS APPEAL
Pohjanmaan furniture is manufactured from high-quality, modern materials. You can, however, still prolong the durability and attractiveness of your products by using and caring for them properly. Read the instructions carefully, since improper use or neglect might eliminate or reduce the manufacturer’s responsibility in case of product defect or liability.
FRAME AND SPRING SUSPENSION
The frame of Pohjanmaan sofa suites is made with densely-grained Finnish softwood. The frame has been stress tested in accordance with the strictest norms (ISO 7173 7.3-7.8 + 7.10, Seitek 159L961408). The cushioning in sofa suites is created using durable, fully-tempered steel springs. There are at least four sets of springs per seat, which ensure that the sofa will retain its firmness and comfortable seating for years to come. Special models also use pocketed spiral springs. Based on test results, we have decided to extend a 20-year guarantee on the wooden frames of our sofas. Neither the frame nor the springs will require any servicing. If any problems arise, please contact your local retailer or the manufacturer.
PADDING AND WADDING
Some depressions will always result from the use of padded furniture. All padding feels slightly firmer when it is new than after the first few weeks of use. The padding in a sofa is created by the use of springs and various additional materials such as foam, polyurethane foam, fibre wadding or down. Each padding type has its own unique characteristics. Heavy-handed beating can damage the fabric’s weave and fibres and the padding of the sofa. Our furniture padding does not create dust and is care-free. We only use first-rate CFC-free wadding and padding that have been allergy, fire, usage and strain tested. If the cushions get wet, make sure to dry them thoroughly, since the foam can absorb an enormous amount of liquid.
UPHOLSTERY MATERIALS
Different materials are cared for in different ways. A cleaning agent that is suitable for one surface material may ruin another material, so it is important to follow the care and maintenance instructions provided for any material you choose. Frequent excessive cleaning using neutral substances is better than an infrequent shock treatment using strong substances that may wear or compromise surfaces.
FABRICS
The majority of the fabrics we use have been treated with Teflon or Scotchguard to repel water and dirt.
STAIN REMOVAL FROM FABRICS
Carefully scrape off any solid dirt using a blunt knife as quickly as possible. Treat only the stain itself. Dissolve the stains without rubbing. Work your way toward and away from the stain to avoid the formation of a ring on the fabric. Use water and stain remover sparingly, since such substances may damage the material underneath the fabric or may colour the surface material. If you change stain removers, allow the first substance to dry completely before applying another. Use a paper towel to absorb any excess moisture. Light dirt on smaller surfaces can be removed using a soft, clean and colourless eraser.

A FEW WORDS OF WARNING ABOUT STAIN REMOVAL
Varo! Verhoilumateriaalin hoito-ohjeen vastaisia puhdistusaineita ja hoitotoimenpiteitä. Valkaisevia puhdistusaineita värillisillä kankailla. Runsasta veden käyttöä ja kosteutta. Liiallista hankaamista ja nukkautuvien kankaiden harjausta. Teräviä esineitä. Tamppaamista.
Avoid:
• any cleaning agents and treatment methods that run counter to the instructions given for the upholstery material in question;
• using any substances that contain bleach on coloured fabrics;
• using excessive amounts of water and moisture;
• excessive scouring of fabrics or brushing of fabrics that create lint;
• using sharp objects on the furniture;
• beating.
Avoid:
• petrol and solvents;
• alkaline and acidic cleaning agents;
• abrasives;
• dry room air, close proximity to a radiator, direct sunlight;
• a possible colour transfer from dyed clothes to light-coloured leather;
• stubborn stains caused by grease from hands and hair;
• getting leather wet or rubbing wet leather.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR VARNISHED PRODUCTS
Varnished and colour-varnished products can be wiped clean with a moist towel. If the surface is very dirty, you can also use a mild, colourless cleaning agent that contains no ammonia or abrasives. Always allow the surface to dry completely after cleaning.

TREATMENT OF LEATHER SURFACES
Leather must also be carefully looked after in order to ensure that it looks nearly as good as new for years to come. Furniture leather has been surface treated to protect it from dirt, moisture and grease.
Remove dust and stains from leather furniture using a moist cleaning cloth or sponge. Allow the furniture to dry after wet wiping. Dust gathered in folds and creases in the leather upholstery will cause wear. Leather should be vacuumed regularly using a textile nozzle. Always use cleaning and treatment agents or soapy solutions intended specifically for use on leather. Some all-purpose cleaners can cause damage that is difficult to repair. Maintain the original softness and beauty of the leather by treating it with a conditioner meant for leather upholstery once or twice a year.

WOODEN FURNITURE
Solid wood furniture has been manufactured using a natural product, namely wood. Thus, each piece of solid wood furniture is completely unique. When well-maintained, solid wood furniture will last for years of even intense use. See the Care Instructions for Varnished Products and General Care and Maintenance Instructions.
GENERAL CARE AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Never place indoor furnishings in direct sunlight. Never place warm or moist objects directly onto a varnished or painted surface. Always use a coaster. Immediately dry up any liquids that get spilled onto a wooden surface. Wooden furniture does not react well to rapid changes in temperature. Therefore, any furniture purchased during the winter should not be immediately placed near a radiator, but should be allowed to warm slowly in a normal room temperature.
