SOFT SOFA MATERIALS LIVE WITH USE

The upholstery material used on cushioned furniture, whether it is fabric or leather, will always stretch during the first weeks of use. This initial stretching is a natural characteristic of fabric and leather, not a defect. This feature is least obvious in products in which the upholstery has been tightened by taking the material in.
When picking out fabrics, remember that, despite modern protective treatments, a certain degree of life belongs to the basic characteristics of many natural materials, such as cotton and linen fabrics, so a minor degree of shrinkage, wrinkling and colour fading should be anticipated.
Remember that the sofa model on display in a retail shop does not always give an accurate picture of cushion softness. The cell structure of foam takes shape in use and the real ‘nature’ of the softness is revealed with time. A brand new sofa feels firmer to sit on than one that has already been used for a few weeks.
Those sofa models in which wadding has been used in the pillows forming the back rest and armrests may appear flatter than expected when removed from their packaging. Fluffing the pillows briskly will return them to their original shape and thickness.
Be sure to check occasionally that the mountings and screws on the furniture are properly tightened. Finally, remember to stick felt pads on the bottoms of the furniture legs in order to protect sensitive floor materials.
